Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer described the case as an intra-family situation involving a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother and father.
The Ohio Bureau of Investigation and local sheriff’s department executed a search warrant Tuesday at a home in Hamden, where they found the children in what Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described as "deplorable” conditions, at a news conference Tuesday.
"Conditions you cannot even imagine people being in, let alone children being in," Wilson said at Tuesday's news conference. "Their medical condition was so severe that the number one concern of our law enforcement who were there at the scene was getting them medical treatment, getting them to safety, to the point where literally their lives were in danger at the time."
Wilson said "a parallel investigation" unrelated to the 16 children led law enforcement to the home.
Hamden is about 60 miles southeast of Columbus. Two of the children were airlifted to Level 1 trauma centers because of the severity of their injuries, Wilson said. "This is pure evil," he added. Wilson commended law enforcement officers for going into what he described as "one of the worst environments" he has seen in his career. Justice will be served for these kids," he said Tuesday, noting that it was not a human trafficking situation.
Asked at a news conference Wednesday how the defendants are related, Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer said they are a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother and father. Steve Irwin, a spokesperson for the Ohio attorney general's office, would not say Thursday whether all of the children are siblings or how they were related. Authorities also would not confirm whether Elizabeth Siders gave birth to all 16 children. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said the Siders had moved around Ohio since 2008, avoiding setting up medical and government records. Investigators believe they had been living in Vinton County for about four years.
Wilson said an unrelated "parallel investigation" led law enforcement to the home, which is owned by a trust.
The children, ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years old and including both boys and girls, were kept for most of the past four years in a roughly 12-by-12-foot room at a residence in Hamden, Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain said.
Cain said investigators found "a high presence" of human feces in the room but that the children had not been kept in cages. The 18-year-old is believed to be developmentally disabled and could not spell her name. "Most of our livestock was kept in better conditions than the children," Cain said. "It was just a disgusting scene."

Hamden, Ohio doesn’t have illegal migrants. Allegedly, they have someone who created a Trust and bought a home, and then kept children in cages covered with shit and were violently abused (allegedly) because to some people that’s exciting. Now please keep an eye on the “high presence” of feces and ensure they’re also not illegally represented.
