Opening pages at random.

It’s one of my favorite things to do in college assignments and when reading books. The fact is I live like a robotico. In a life that is fully arranged the only chances, that may be chances, are things like this: opening a book and trusting fate to see what opens.

The book in question is “The Hundred Year Marathon — CHINA’S SECRET STRATEGY TO REPLACE AMERICA AS THE GLOBAL SUPERPOWER” and the author is Michael Pillsbury who I’ve decided to name after the dance known as The Doughie. My hands opened page 195. If you count the top paragraph as 1 (although its a continuation from the prior page) then paragraph 3 is this:

In sum, if the China dream becomes a reality in 2049, the Sinocentric world will nurture autocracies; many websites will be filled with rewritten history defaming the West and praising China; and pollu-tion will contaminate the air in more countries, as developing nations adopt the Chinese model of “grow now, and deal with the environment later” in a race to the bottom in food safety and environmental standards….

And YouTube unerringly pointed me towards an incident in Beijing at Hyrox.

Notes in the margin: To be fair, YouTube itself began with a “2 Girls and 1 Cup” video that featured extensive scenes of Scat.
2 Girls 1 Cup — the trailer for Hungry Bitches, a 2007 Brazilian scat fetish film produced by MFX Media. It became one of the most notorious shock videos in YouTube's history, spawning a massive wave of reaction videos.

One small timing note: it actually went viral around October 2007, which is after Google's acquisition of YouTube in October 2006 — but it was still in the platform's early explosive-growth phase, so it's easy to conflate the two.
