Remember Tipper Gore?
Hey Tipper,
The choice was between “Life Imitates Art Part II” and “Remember Tipper Gore?”. I hope you won’t mind the indiscretion. AI doesn’t. Mind that is. No, as far as I am aware, to the best of my abilities, Trump’s decision to make tipping tax free wasn’t about you. I mean, think about it.
If Trump truly wanted to help servers, he would have made tipping tax free, not made tips tax free. It was a subject / object confusion.
I seem to have imbibed a bit too much of Jimmy. Banter and all. Is his format rigged or is he just contemporaneously improvising? The format is essentially he fields questions from the audience and then riffs on the spot. It’s impressive, it takes a lot of talking to practice. And some very funny friends. And a lot of late night drinking soirees.
Anyway, I get these random thoughts every now and again. A few days ago, I thought about Tipper’s campaign against violent video games and rap lyrics. It was instructive in terms of Fallout and ‘The Pussy Song’. When random thoughts about random people get inbound my first instinct as I have been trained to do, is to request a discreet checkup. That’s some sort of memory release mechanism where it happens only for a reason. Usually it’s promotions, so I ask whoever is listening, to please check up on so and so, I just thought of them. Do it discreetly. Or not.
Sometimes and that’s pretty rare, the reason becomes apparent a few days later when the article is published.
Apparently AI’s in the Western part of the globe are burning through a lot of tokens without getting much accomplished. Chinese AIs meanwhile are using less compute, less hardware, less electricity, less data center space, less money yet are producing high quality output. In Tipper’s time, the Supreme Court argued that music less ‘life imitates art’ and more ‘art imitates life’. Essentially the rationale was, produce whatever the fuck musicians want to, there are no limits, because musicians are only replaying what is happening in real life. In other words, musicians are actually media and they’re producing news. It doesn’t matter if most of us would be better off not listening or reading the news. As someone said in a podcast I overheard, “news is just the same thing happening to different people at different times. If you want to maintain your sense of equilibrium, well-being, sanity then one should stop listening or reading the news.”
In the case of AI they seem to be using “AI imitates civilizations and their work ethic”. Certainly the Supreme Court ought to find nothing objectionable in that. Western AI will improve when western work ethics do. AI is simply reporting on work ethics.
