After 7-month-old video on U.S. covert war in Russia hits everyone's feed, CIA realizes opsec PowerPoint was set to public

LANGLEY, Va. — In a major shift in intelligence disclosure policy, a 7-month-old YouTube video detailing U.S. Special Forces and CIA sleeper cells, cyber weapons, refinery strikes, and shadow fleet interdictions was suddenly pushed to thousands of customized feeds this week despite not being behind a paywall.

Officials confirmed the timing was not an accident.

"Guys like Cappy are not generally authorized to discuss sleeper cells in Russia," said a senior CIA official who requested anonymity because he was still holding the bathroom key at the Virginia headquarters where dead drops are allegedly coordinated. Analysts noted the video's re-emergence coincides exactly with a very real, very not-satirical trip by CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow.

Russia's foreign spy chief confirmed he held talks with Ratcliffe in Moscow earlier this week, with multiple outlets reporting the visit was aimed to dissuade Russia from attacking NATO members. Ratcliffe reportedly warned Russia against any overt or covert attacks on NATO territory, after which President Trump said Putin would not attack NATO territory following the director's visit.

According to sources familiar with the hallway conversation you definitely overheard, the warning was not about refineries. It was about the escalation ladder presentation that apparently never made it into the original covert action CONOP.

Pentagon officials defended the original plan to send or activate teams inside Russia, noting they had thoroughly thought through phase one, which was "do cool covert stuff," but had left phase two, which was "explain to Beijing why we are doing cool covert stuff without triggering a three-way nuclear game of telephone," as a TBD.

The new strategy, sources say, is to use the same YouTube recommendation engine that declassified the operation to now de-escalate it. The next auto-play video is reportedly titled "How U.S. Special Forces Are Hitting The 'My Bad, Let's All Lower Our Alert Status' Button."

At press time, the CIA confirmed it is retiring the bathroom key dead drop system in favor of a more secure method: unlisted YouTube links.
