Affordable Steak Meals.

I am a vegan. Let’s start there. And this is not a satire. Let’s continue there. So why write this essay? I write it because I am about to have a steak meal and I feel compelled to write this because there are the common people of America who cannot afford food anymore. Period. Also I can’t seem to go purely vegan because the teams who support me cannot sustain that diet. It’s one of those conundrums that has no decent or humane answers. Everything is intrinsically connected including apparently my breath and energy.

I won’t give you the guilt trip in this essay. Here I’ll outline how you can afford to eat steak. My answer to that question is thinner slices. And by that I mean bulgogi not literally cutting up the filet mignon into thinner and thinner slices. The bulgogi is like a steak tartare except it’s been marinated in a slightly sweet Korean barbecue sauce. All I have to do is take the slice and heat it on a stove for no more than 2 minutes. I don’t need a thermometer for perfect temperature, I don’t need to worry about rare, medium rare, medium, slightly well done and well done flavors. The flavor is the marinade and medium. I picked up a box of 1.75 lbs of bulgogi at 10.99 per lb for about 19 dollars. It will provide me 3 different meals at least. I could stretch it into 4 if I wanted.

Revolutionary Lunch Idea: Marinated Bulgogi, Rice, One or two boiled eggs (or soft scrambled and mixed into rice), cucumbers, Pico de Gallo, frozen peas and chopped carrots. It’s healthy, cheap and fulfilling. Total cost is under 8 dollars.

There was once a time when I couldn’t cook. I went for a whole month on oatmeal and eggs. I lost almost 45 lbs in a month (235 lbs down to 190). My doctor was concerned. I don’t recommend that diet unless a person has no options or can’t cook. The lunch idea above doesn’t require cooking experience.

Here’s the thing America, we don’t have to allow these people to put us in a downward spiral. We can create our own world with a cordon sanitaire. We can simply bypass their bullshit. They don't truly affect our lives anyway. Unless you’re a soldier.
