Daily Briefing On Palestine V — Oct 24, 2026 — Everything Since Briefing IV Oct 22
00 — Background — Not To Trivialize, To Place
This briefing does not repeat previous figures to avoid trivializing loss. It places today in context. The war began on October 7, 2023. A ceasefire was announced to take effect on October 10, 2025. That ceasefire has not stopped strikes, killings, house demolitions, or the blockade of Gaza.
For scale, as of October 24, 2026, ticker figures reported by reliable monitors: The Gaza Health Ministry, considered reliable by the United Nations and cited by Reuters on October 24, reports 74,498 people confirmed killed since October 2023, including 21,976 children. About 82 percent of structures in Gaza are damaged or destroyed, roughly 200,000 buildings. During the ceasefire period, civil defense teams have recovered 841 bodies from rubble according to earlier updates, with 839 recovered in a subsequent count as rubble clearing continues.
Since the ceasefire began in October 2025: At least 1,522 people killed and 5,421 wounded as of October 23 per the Gaza Health Ministry; by October 24, Palestine Uncensored reported 1,538 killed and 5,498 wounded, with at least 14 killed and 17 wounded in the past 24 hours alone despite the ceasefire. UNICEF reported on October 22-23 that at least 351 children have been killed since the ceasefire began, according to WAFA, English Palestine Information Center (english.palinfo.com), and The Business Standard citing UNICEF official Edouard Beigbeder. For comparison, Israeli military losses in the same ceasefire period are reported as 5 soldiers.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has stated that the ongoing violations cannot be described as a ceasefire. On October 9, more than 100 humanitarian organizations stated that the ceasefire exists in name only.
Benjamin Netanyahu is a wanted man under international law. The International Criminal Court issued active arrest warrants in November 2024 for war crimes and crimes against humanity against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The Hague has no police force of its own and relies on member states to enforce warrants. As an example of the enforcement gap, New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani stated he would seek arrest if Netanyahu visited New York, but the city and state cannot enforce without federal cooperation. He is contesting an election scheduled for October 27. When pertinent in this briefing, the word genocide is used as it is being used at the United Nations and at The Hague for ongoing legal qualifications.

02 — West Bank — OBLIGATORY — Settler Violence Leading To Imprisonment Or Death — Record Levels
The olive harvest is not symbolic. It is annual income, winter savings, and family tradition. Families depend on it to pay debts and buy heating oil and school supplies. When trees are burned or olives stolen, a year of work is lost.
- Yesh Din — Israeli human rights monitoring group tracking settler violence — October 24: More than 330 incidents of settler violence linked to the olive harvest 2026, which began at end of September, including attacks, theft, tree damage, and intimidation. These patterns have existed for decades, but violence has sharply increased this year.

UNIFIL is the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. About 7,500 peacekeepers from about 50 countries. Its area is the Blue Line — the line of separation between Lebanon and Israel — south to the Litani River to the north.
- Frontier Post / Themunicheye October 24: UN says Lebanon mission attacked 30 times in October, about 20 attributable to IDF fire and actions, with seven being clearly deliberate, per spokesman Andrea Tenenti.

04 — Palestine Overall — End Of UNIFIL Mandate, Security Vacuum
The UN Security Council voted to end the UNIFIL mandate on December 31, 2026, raising concerns about a security vacuum in southern Lebanon, per CMIO. A UNIFIL convoy to the airport was violently assaulted, outgoing commander injured, per themunicheye — described as blatant violation that could be classified as war crime.
Resource shortages for Gaza peace plan implementation noted. Arkel Gaza base block, 150 international troops, Trump Board of Peace still blocked shapes future dynamics. The blocking of implementation mechanisms leaves the Green Zone map in place without protection.

05 — Iran / Syria When Connected — Plans For Fresh Strikes After Midterms
This section is included because planning around Iran affects oil price, airspace, and risk calculations for Gaza and Lebanon.
- Matzav.com detailed October 22: US and Israel developed extensive plans after November 3 midterms for concentrated assault on Iranian nuclear installations, energy facilities, weapons infrastructure, several days intensive, to force Tehran to accept demands on nuclear program and Strait of Hormuz — the narrow waterway where 20 percent of world oil passes.
- Preparations: Aerial exercises over Iraq, undisclosed meeting earlier this week between US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Prime Minister Netanyahu — Hegseth acknowledged Tuesday meeting, declined details.
- 8 months confrontation: Has severely damaged facilities but not produced comprehensive agreement.
- Proposal: 3-day offensive on strategically important targets without prolonged campaign. Pentagon assembling additional forces, buildup completed first part of November — three aircraft carriers, thousands of Marines, fighter jets, Special Operations expected. Timing favors nighttime attacks, longer nights in Iran in November. While attack before end of October not ruled out, period immediately after American midterm elections receiving particular attention. Trump publicly said US would not launch before Nov 3 citing productive discussions, turned down several proposals during year.
- Netanyahu sought launch earlier: Weekend of Oct 10 but abandoned after Trump opposed, per Financial Times via newsinisrael.co.uk. Multi-day bombing campaign in October prevented by US President Trump per Ynet, Walla, Israel Hayom, Jerusalem Post, Times of Israel.
- Targets: Among targets Pickaxe Mountain — heavily fortified underground installation deep beneath granite, far more challenging than above ground. Trump discussed using GBU-43/B MOAB — Mother of All Bombs — 22,000-pound largest conventional bomb designed for enormous explosion over broad area — specialists question whether capable of destroying buried installation because it detonates above surface, not penetrate like bunker-buster.
- Oil and election optics: Zubiqo Take — explicit timing around Nov 3 highlights how deeply domestic electoral mechanics dictate tempo of international military operations, subordinating tactical strikes to immediate pump-price optics. Brent crude near $109-$114-$117 per barrel per Zark News Daily Briefing, Dow Sheds 500 Friday as oil tops $114 on reports of US-Israel plans for Iran strikes, Brent nears $117 October 24 per aieon.ee Analysis Global Oct 24 Iran braces for US-Israeli strikes. Iranian analysts response likely target Saudi refineries viewing oil prices as leverage. Quote Mahdi Mohammadi: 72-hour US campaign is fantasy.
- NPR October 23 4:36 AM MDT: US and Israel making moves that point to possibility of renewed heavy fighting with Iran, prospect complicated by critical elections in both US and Israel in coming days.
- Reuters October 23: Iranian security officials told international media Tehran has prepared detailed plans to attack undersea communications cables in Gulf should US and Israel launch renewed strikes — warnings come amid fragile diplomacy.

The Little Girl Who Watched Her Mother Burn — Maryam Ghanem
From Zeteo (zeteo.com), This Week in Palestine: Two Videos Show Horrors of Israeli Violence in Gaza and the Occupied West Bank, October 17, 2026: The video is haunting. Little Maryam, surrounded by fire and smoke, crying as she watches her mother burn.
Maryam Ghanem survived, rescued by Palestinian journalist Ali al-Jaafrawi. Toddler now orphan. Father killed just months before she was born. She continues to ask for her mother. Maryam herself will forever be haunted by the genocide she was born into — a genocide that took both parents and left her with severe burns. This is the reality children like Maryam face every day as the world continues to stand by as Israel kills, starves, and burns.
Second case: Afaf Abu Alia, grandmother, woke early October 19 to join grandchildren picking olives near Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah, heard woman screaming, saw settlers, cars burning — olive harvest annual income, savings, winter family tradition.
Third case: Three children killed in al-Faluja October 19 per medics, plus child gunned down at 15:31 in middle of Green Zone — the place marked safe for displaced tent families.

Foundation On Which Flag Stands Since 1947-48 — FULL Size As In Historic III
Who are Palestinians today, by numbers: Total Palestinians worldwide approximately 14.5 million. Approximately 7.2 million in historic Palestine (what is now Israel, West Bank, Gaza). Approximately 7.3 million in diaspora. UNRWA — United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East — registers 5.9 million refugees.
What happened: The Nakba in 1947-48. Nakba means catastrophe in Arabic. Between 700,000 and 800,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled from 400 to 600 villages and towns that were destroyed. The Naksa in 1967. Naksa means setback. Between 300,000 and 400,000 more were displaced. Some became double refugees — displaced twice, first in 1948, again in 1967.
Desert Bloom — Full Sentences For First-Time Reader
Early Israeli leaders, including David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister, promoted the idea that Palestine was an empty desert that needed to bloom through settlement, labor, and irrigation. That slogan was used worldwide to raise money.
In concrete terms, that meant building the National Water Carrier — a large pipe moving water from the Sea of Galilee in the north to the Negev Desert in the south — draining the Hula Valley wetlands, and planting forests through the Jewish National Fund over the ruins of destroyed villages so that remains would not be visible. For example, a forest was planted over Lubya village. A visitor today sees trees where a village stood.
After 1967 came the Allon Plan, dividing the West Bank into areas for settlement. In 2005 came disengagement from inside Gaza, but blockade since 2007 controlling air, sea, borders, and goods. The Yellow Line in 2026 is a continuation of that partitioning logic.
This history links to today's tragedies. When you describe land as empty and needing bloom, you justify taking land, moving people, building settlements, and creating a map where Palestinians live in ever smaller enclaves surrounded by walls, checkpoints, and now the Yellow Line. The current tragedies — a child gunned down in the middle of the Green Zone, tent camps bombed, 9 in 10 displaced — are the result of a long history, not a sudden event.
