Firing Squad Execution of Fort Hood Shooter.

The Pentagon said it’s gonna do it. The President and VP had second thoughts about it.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, there is a deterrence payoff — shooters seeing graphic imagery will be less inclined to go on shooting sprees. On the other hand, treasonous stuff will get a tap on the hand and be asked to pay a fine. Just for a bit imagine what turning over technology to an adversary could cost: pilot’s lives, lives of ground soldiers, losing hot wars etc. It’s all a bit sort of insane. It’s the same as not punishing the elites in finance who committed the GFC (Great Financial Crisis) but rewarding them with largest bonuses ever a few years later.

Imagine if those elites who created the financial derivatives (called financial weapons of mass destruction on Wall Street before the GFC) were shot on live TV with a firing squad for causing damage to the lives of millions of Americans.
Note: This is not a call to violence, it’s simply looking at the deterrence value of things. If such a spectacle were to unfold, do you think America would ever have a deliberately engineered financial crisis ever again? Or will we lose technology through mailing sensitive airplane parts to China? I think it’s unlikely.
