Hunger’s Mirror Maze.

What if our appetites mirror hunger? That’s the larger question that looms over the nodes and the nodal bridges. Sometimes I suddenly get cravings. I am just sitting peacefully minding my own business or watching a show and suddenly a desire for ice-cream or snacks. Who are you? What do you want? Why are you here? The questions leap into my mind almost unwarranted. I am not your warrant officer. Those people can’t be found anyway according to some blogs. Are those E7s or E9s? A group of mysterious people. No one truly knows when the come and go. Now, now don’t let that worry you, sentientmusings.com has a very low reader count. 14 users on Google Analytics. It’s a highly productive blog with very low readership. Inexplicably the readership declines when the article is more interesting. Still it was only 11 users yesterday.

There is a fascinating fact about hunger I learned some time ago. The lower the nutrition in our food the more a person eats. That is the other reason for obesity. People who eat poorly are typically poor. They often work multiple jobs and by the time they go home, they are not in a mood to cook. It’s often a frozen dinner or pasta or packaged factory made food. It’s far easier to put a pizza in the oven and watch mindless TV for a bit before sleep arrives. The body’s hunger is also understandable. It needs a certain amount of nourishment every day in order to provide the energy to work. A frozen dinner might have 500 calories but only 100 of those calories are useful and convertible into fuel the next day or the day after. The rest of it is what I term as filler. Something to satiate that hunger. People who eat carbohydrates of low quality often feel like eating more of them even though the caloric content was very high. Enriched flour is an especial : it strips the grain of the shell and then uses bleach or other chemicals to remove nutrients. What is left is just often sugar. That is the flour that a lot of baked goods are made from if you read the labels. Eat a little bit of enriched flour and the body reacts viciously. Realizing that the nutrition in the croissant is really low, not only does it inflame the body but it then requires another meal shortly after. Coffee sometimes acts as a temporary appetite suppressant.

The flip side is if you eat truly nutritious food a person feels satiated a lot quicker. Yet such food often doesn’t have sugar in large quantities. The taste buds will initially reject it so a slow introduction is warranted. Yet if you do that successfully a week later you can adjust to eating lunch that comprises of lightly boiled broccoli, asparagus and celery with peanut butter - all of them organic. Add a little salt if needed for taste and electrolytes. It’s amazingly filling, nutritious and packs a lot of fiber and protein.

If a person doesn’t eat sugar in any great quantities (carbs of any kind: beer, bread, cereal, sugar loaded fruits like pineapple) then over a short amount of time, they will lose an enormous amount of weight and also look far younger. Apart from the conscience factor, the problem with any sort of meat is that the animals and birds are usually very poorly treated and kept in cages for most of their life. And they’re killed in inhumane fashion that causes the release of toxic chemicals from their fear and desperation to avoid death. Those toxic chemicals stay in the meat that is then consumed by people. Cows for example are kept pregnant for their milk and the calves are slaughtered so they don’t drink the milk that people buy. There ought to be a rule, if you want to eat meat, you should kill the animal yourself. I suspect that many people will initially feel queasy but will get used to the idea of it. Some might even begin to enjoy it.

That is the planet we live in.
