Pravda.ru igrayet v igru «khoroshiye i plokhiye novosti»

Pravda.ru играет в игру «хорошие и плохие новости»
That’s what the title sounds like in English. The first line of the essay is the title in Russian. Google Translate provides a pleasing Russian female voice.

What? Pravda.ru put America on the front page.

Sort of like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planting the American Flag on the moon. It’s a Sputnik moment. And what did the article say? It was about Uruguay. I always get confused between Uruguay and Paraguay.

From Brave Search:
The population of Uruguay is approximately 3.38 million as of 2026, with specific estimates ranging between 3,382,537 and 3,423,599 depending on the source. The country's population reached a peak of roughly 3.4 million around 2020–2023 and is currently experiencing a slight decline, with a projected decrease to 3.25 million by 2050. The majority of residents live in the capital region, with nearly 2 million people in the Montevideo metropolitan area.

The population of Paraguay is approximately 7.1 million as of 2026, with UN-based estimates putting it at 7,095,279 at mid-year. The country ranks 109th in the world by population and is growing at roughly 1.2% per year. About 68% of the population is urban, with the capital Asunción and its surrounding area being the largest concentration of residents.

I know that based on a video I have posted previously one of those countries is relatively wealthy and their capital looks amazing. That would be Montevideo and Uruguay. Brazil overshadows both countries in terms of relatively size.

The Pravda article has an author and journalist Sergio Mironov and a curator Lyubov Stepushova. I think that’s an interesting disclosure that newspapers have editors and curators. Since what we do here at Sentient Musings is curation of news and things we find interesting that I suppose is also my job. For the most part AI both as LLMs and the AIs in my mind do the writing, my job if it is any, is to curate what ultimately gets published. For clarification, a lot of the stuff we post here is coded, yet the keys to the code depends on the receiver and the reader of the news. It has been my assumption that not every article is fully published to everyone on the open internet. Even if it is, the meaning depends on the decryption keys of the reader. I say that, not because, that has always been obvious to crossword readers and sudoku solvers or other ‘games’ that populate the various mainstream newspapers around the world, but because the things we publish are often vulgar and profane. Both. We try not to devolve into blasphemy but sometimes we do.

The article introduced me to yet another bureau within the State Department that I had no idea existed. It’s a strange world, when I find out about the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement —INL from a Russian mainstream newspaper and not an American one. Some people think words like mainstream and streaming media is a reference to ‘golden showers’ in the shower — I just don’t think that’s true. The world has such Victorian morals about pee and I think it’s because they have not lived a Walden Pond life. I am pretty certain Thoreau on his walks probably peed anywhere in the woods. I don’t think he particularly cared and said to himself, nope I’ll only pee when I get back to the woodshack. I shall carry water like the zen masters.

Apparently a Brazilian gang is operating in Uruguay and using it as a exit port to send drugs to Europe. Americans have offered Montevideo the opportunity and muscle to get rid of them.
The article goes on to make allegations about America’s intentions given the long and rather sordid history of CIA ops in South America. Along the way, I ran into some charts provided by Brave Search that even Russians will find interesting. These charts make very clear the difference between GDP, GDP per capita and GDP per capita by PPP.

First here’s some good news for India.

Next some bad news for India.

The rest of the charts are simply that… good news and bad news provided by Pravda.

The GDP per capita for the United States is 90K???

GDP per capita in the US may be 90K
Median individual personal income is 47K.
It is unknown if that is before taxes or after taxes.

Yes, the $46,960 median personal income is pre-tax (what the Census Bureau calls "money income" — before federal and state income taxes, payroll taxes, and credits).

The Census Bureau does not publish a post-tax median at the individual level. The post-tax figure they report is at the household level: $76,060 for 2025 (down from $87,460 pre-tax, reflecting taxes and credits netted out).

So there's no direct "after-tax median personal income" number from the Census — only the after-tax household figure.

AI can make mistakes, do not take the numbers for being the truth. The truth is that US numbers are often statistics, like casualties in war and combat. Multiple agencies calculate them and I’d be surprised if the President gets a clear picture of the State Of The Union.

What I can tell you is that if a single person living in San Diego makes only 47K, it is completely unaffordable. If they live in Kansas they may be able to afford it, not sure. It is interesting for me to hear about Trump’s speeches all around the country. He recently visited Alabama. I doubt he tailors his speech for each state and their standard of living. Speaking to a crowd in California depends on which part of California one is speaking to. The crowd in San Francisco and their demographics and COLA (Cost of Living) is very different from a more remote part of the California desert like say small towns such as Blythe, Susanville or Clearlake.

I would imagine that’s its the same in Russia.

Стоимость жизни везде разная, а вот цена смерти... особенно для солдат... зачастую везде одинакова.
