Sentient Musings Daily - Edition 4.
An Act of System's Gods vs An Act of Nature's God
The Age of Displacement — When There Is No Place Left To Go — Natural quakes and human cages leave the same aftermath.
Acts of System's Gods
People leave sometimes with simply what they can grab (earthquakes), other times with a car full of what they can pack, other times just a line of people forced out by bombs.
Native Americans — Trail of Tears. 1948 Nakba. Gaza 2023-26 — tents under very poor conditions that continue to get bombed, forced famine, disease rampant. Sudan — 12 million displaced, largest crisis on earth.
Pax Silica: 4,000-acre Golden Node New Clark City — 20,000 Aeta Indigenous + 15,000 farmers displaced for chip hub. Bureaucratic delay used to justify expropriation.
Incarceration as displacement: 2 million in cages in US, enormous amount Black peoples — displacement from community, family, future — counted as missing.
Eviction: Foreclosure, rent non-payment — house still stands, person gone. Homelessness — pavement while homes empty.
Eviction from country: Four migrants dead Channel, 14 this year. Migrant children without lawyers: "They want to put them into the deportation machinery." Thousands Haitians losing TPS. Trump's $1.5B California detention — strip searches, extreme cold, 4,500 capacity.
Invisible borders: Hukou — 358 million Chinese internal migrants, 1958 system, no equal services. System reveals itself as God: deciding who stays, who goes, who exists.
Acts of Nature's God
7.1 quake kills 18 southwestern Japan, rescuers comb collapsed shopping mall. 5.5 quake hits Peru's Andes, killing at least 6. Venezuela — La Guaira survivors improvise showers and toilets amid water shortages, rescue winds down, left alone to recover dead.
California — San Andreas fault has gone ominously silent, scientists fear when it snaps. Near Bakersfield and Arvin, 3.2 and 4.2 quakes appear on or close to San Andreas, Garlock faults.
Madrid — "The firefighters can't keep up; last night there were three new fires." Bordeaux — flames within 20 miles, UNESCO city, 300,000 fled France and Spain. Guangdong — 700,000 relocated as Typhoon Noul slams, highest flash flood alerts. BC — 90 active wildfires, 433 across West, 900 nationally. Cairngorms National Park evacuated since July 15. Arizona 113°F hottest ever.
Insurance calls it "Act of God" to deny claim — but it's nature. Same aftermath as left: no place to go.
What Displacement Does To People
Long term trauma. Immense suffering. The idea of home permanently altered. Millions affected. Many live in tents under very poor conditions — sometimes those areas continue to get bombed and attacked, forced famine, disease runs rampant. Sometimes people are killed simply because of race genocide. Other times religion genocide. Children lose school, language, future. Parents lose lineage. Home becomes memory that hurts. What happens to children now decides next century — Edition 03.
Human Callousness
Everything continues. Rich, elite, movies, luxury goods, Wall Street — Long-term Treasury yields at 19-year high, Nasdaq leaps 2.5% on same day, U.S. growth slowed to 1.5% as costs of displaced rise. Countries unwilling to do part in alleviating collective human suffering.
Shelters become places of blackmarkets, spies, electronic monitoring. Aid kept flowing Florida to Venezuela as volunteers unite, but rescue winds down and people left alone. Truth and trust have no value.
Human Mercy
A few people donate. A few people travel to shelters to help. Some doctors and medical personnel go where cameras don't. Firefighters in Madrid can't keep up and still go back in. Rescue teams in Venezuela cling to hope.
Not enough, but proof other way is possible. Evidence, reason, compassion for all sentient beings.
