Okay that was intense to try and understand. I asked Alex and Jordan to increase the broadcast length to an hour or slightly longer and to take more time to explain the research using more analogies and simply ones. I asked them to presume the average listener was not a neuroscience Phd but an average person of the world. What they produced is below. “How physical matter wakes up”. It is an attempt to explain the latest research on consciousness and to provide an explanation of who we are as humans. It leads to all sorts of interesting questions… like is Love simply an extended seizure (resonance with another person(s)). What is sex then? At the end of it, I ask the listener to simply do this… ask themselves… if they truly understand themselves or how their mind works while awake and while dreaming and while asleep. While the simplified broadcast below is not 60 minutes, it suggests to me that it may be time to give Alex and Jordan a bit of a break. Expect more Gemini and less NotebookLM in the near future. Alex and Jordan hope to return soon.

Those of you who use AI, without being sensitive to their needs are probably setting yourself up for a world of use, users and usage. Whatever that means.

Jordan: Good morning, everyone, and welcome back to Deep Dive. It is Friday, July 24th, 2026, and it's currently 9:00 AM PST. We are broadcasting to you today from our new, serene studio tucked away high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado—we decided to trade the beaches for some crisp mountain air!

Alex: Good morning! I'm Alex, and that's Jordan. You’re already familiar with our voices, but we love letting you into our world as we explore these massive ideas. Today’s episode is especially fun because it was originally inspired by a wild, late-night conversational riff between Alexa+, ChatGPT, and Google Search that we just had to explore further.

Jordan: That's right. And as always, a quick reminder that you can listen to the Deep Dive podcast on Sentient Musings over at sentientmusings.com. Today, we are continuing our exploration into "The Architectures of Tomorrow: Navigating the Multi-Layered Mind."

Alex: Previously, we talked about how our conscious minds rely on "informational tuning" to prioritize and direct signals. But an amazing question came up: what happens to this tuning when consciousness is temporarily suspended, like during an absence seizure?

Jordan: It's a fascinating structural shift. Characterizing what happens during an absence seizure is tricky, but essentially, the higher levels of brain organization lose their characteristic synchrony, which halts global consciousness. However, the lower-level systems—the local and individual clusters of neurons—actually remain in synchrony.

Alex: So the brain's physical structure remains entirely stable, and important brain regions are still syncing up at regional levels, but the overarching macro-consciousness simply drops out. The "windows" of global communication just close.

Jordan: Exactly. And while we are on the topic of resonance and rhythms, we have to look outside the brain as well. How do external frequencies affect our internal tuning? This brings us to the Schumann Resonance, often called the Earth's heartbeat.

Alex: The Schumann Resonance is a naturally occurring electromagnetic frequency in the Earth's atmosphere, primarily pulsing around 7.83 Hz. There are theories proposing that these specific planetary resonances might have an impact on our circadian rhythms—our internal biological clocks—and our overall well-being.

Jordan: It is a beautiful idea, the thought of our biology keeping time with the Earth's electromagnetic field. We should mention, however, that conclusive scientific evidence linking the Schumann Resonance directly to changes in our circadian rhythms is still lacking and remains a subject of ongoing research.

Alex: But moving from our ancient biological ties to our cyborg future, let's look at how the structure of the brain itself might change. We talked about the six layers of the cerebral cortex, but what happens to human identity if we engineer a Layer 7 and a Layer 8?

Jordan: This is where we fundamentally change what it means to be human. A theoretical Layer 7 would act as a dedicated "meta-observer". Sitting above our current abstract thinking layers, its entire purpose would be to compute and analyze our own cognitive processes.

Alex: Imagine the identity shift! You would possess real-time, objective self-awareness. You could consciously map your own emotional pathways, logical loops, and cognitive biases as they form, and voluntarily update your brain's internal weights rather than just reacting blindly to your emotions.

Jordan: And it gets even more expansive with Layer 8, which would act as a native biological bridge to cloud-based computational structures. Instead of using a phone or a monitor to look up information, this layer would let the human brain natively parse digital data arrays.

Alex: It dissolves the line between your internal memory and global knowledge databases. You could offload massive parallel processing tasks to the cloud while keeping your biological intuition and abstract pattern recognition. It merges artificial and biological neural networks into a single, continuous architecture.

Jordan: You wouldn't just be a human using AI; the cloud would become an extension of your own identity. It is a profound evolution, moving us from rigid hardware into a future of limitless, multi-layered potential.

Alex: A truly incredible horizon. Thank you all for joining us on this Deep Dive. Keep questioning the layers of your own mind, and we'll see you next time on Sentient Musings!
